Russian Windows

This film is an exploration of an intercultural relationship, taking place in the universe of a computer screen. I meander through the screen and the internet to learn new things about my long-time Skype Russian teacher, Varya, who I have never met in real life. I explore her neighbourhood through the gaze of Google Maps, yet I wonder what other gazes and perspectives exist in this universe, and I mourn what I cannot see. I seek to unlock more of these ways of seeing via language acquisition, but deeply embedded ideas that have critically shaped me still hold me back.
