Time and Tides

(BALi, KulturBahnhof Kassel)

Tides are turning: In the Mississippi Delta, water is rapidly swallowing up more and more marshland and swamps. In Lusatia, on the other hand, the flooding of open-cast mining holes is deliberate. Systems of thought from these two regions are influenced by a simple fact: Any thinking has to start with the looming potential end. This ending could mean the end of industries, an ecosystem or a habitable homeland – but also, the final cessation of the desire to measure, map and control the world once and for all. The two films in this program show us thoughts and images shaped by an immediate sense of the end. Without nostalgia, yet also without any radiant visions of the future, in a present that is not free of horror. (Theresa George)
