Presentation with films. Guests: Mareike Bernien und Merle Kröger (in German). Introduction and moderation: Tobias Hering. Mareike Bernien and Merle Kröger present the recently launched online archive “The Fifth Wall”, dedicated to the work of Indian-born filmmaker Navina Sundaram, whose work as an editor-in-chief, correspondent and anchor woman for German television started in 1964 and was groundbreaking in many ways. As an exemplary archival project, “The Fifth Wall” also embodies a pioneering demand to make German television archives public domain. The presentation will follow a thematical thread through Sundaram’s versatile body of work: her frequent coverage of decolonization processes in the global South. The TV feature DIE FREIHEIT UND IHR PREIS (1973) will be shown.
