As the car door falls shut the rest of the world is closed out. The automobile single-handedly created individual mobility for (western) societies. It dominates ourlifestyle and our habitats. It’s a safe space, a living space, and a sanctuary. It attracts love and hate. The program circumvents the multifarious relations between human and automobile from several perspectives: From adolescent juvenility to the long-term effects of colonialization. A joyride into freedom, an outburst in standstill. Not knowing the consequences, we put our hands on the wheel only to eventually let go of it forever. (JessicaManstetten)

In the spring of 1992, multimedia artist Ivan Faktor, medic and Croatian volunteer Vlatko, and four more passengers leave war-struck Osijek to travel to Copenhagen in a renovated van. Faktor films the entire trip, the passengers on board, their appearance on TV, conversations about art and war, visits to friends, a meeting with his wife and son and the trip back.
