Hunter from Elsewhere – a Journey with Helen Britton

“I’m not afraid of kitsch,” says Helen Britton. The renowned Australian artist is referring to glass-blown art and Christmas tree ornaments, which she incorporates in her work just as much as sea shells or everyday objects. We follow her on a cinematic journey from her home in Newcastle to Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, a centre for diamond trading and gemstone processing for 400 years. What distinguishes Britton is her respect for, and careful handling of, materials and their history – whether they are precious metals or plastic.
