MI ARMA

It took a while for Andalusian drag queen Belilal to understand how and why she consciously embodies folkloric elements in her performances, despite the fact that these very symbols are strongly associated with Spain under Francoism. Folklore and queerness are firmly part of Andalusia's identity. But how does one overcome the stigma of a tradition tainted with oppression? As the camera follows Belilal during her make-up routine, she confidently talks about the strategy of working and living with and under folklore. It is a look behind the scenes and also a look back at a time between tradition and upheaval.
