Filmmaker Andrea Segre travels to Venice to make a film about the two imminent threats for the city: tourism and high water. When the COVID-19 pandemic hits Italy, he decides to stay there during lockdown in order to document the changes in the city. During his time there, he rediscovers his fathers birthplace as a home of majestic beauty that suddenly seems to be given back to its locals. That somehow also brings him closer to his long deceased father. MOLECOLE is an elegiac filmessay that shows Venice as an allegory for the fragility of the human existence. (Carolin Ernst)
