The Last Hillbilly

Brian Ritchie and his family live among abandoned mines of the former coal mining area of Kentucky, the “Land of Tomorrow”. With a voice that sounds like whiskey and cigarettes, Brian confirms every prejudice – as he speaks in a striking poetic manner about unemployment, migration and the lack of perspectives. With its dark and gloomy soundtrack, the film resembles the journey through a haunted house, in which our Hollywood-influenced image of the average American in suspenders and a fine-ribbed undershirt is revealed to be a dusty specter of the 1930s.
