Tim Leyendekker arranges his film around a reallife criminal case that shook the Netherlands in the early 2000s. Three men were found guilty of drugging twelve other men and injecting them with HIV-positive blood during sex parties. FEAST opens a diffuse field of discourse between ideas of love and possession, sexual consent and violent assault, norm and deviance, pathologization and infectivity, fusion and immunization. The result is a disturbance that challenges its audience. A film that seems to defy all conventions, even and especially those of documentary filmmaking. (Jens Geiger)
