Samar and Lohan fled to Germany with their family to become sisters. As transsexuals, they were in danger of their lives in Syria. Here they have a queer community and are allowed to be themselves. But actually they want to become, how they say, “normal” women. To their mother’s distress, they embark on the long, painful path of gender transition. The film accompanies them and shows how much strength and courage it takes, even in “free” Europe, to stand up to ridicule and discrimination. They are cheered by humorous Arab songs. (Livia Theuer)
