Belina, alias Lea-Nina Rodzynek (1925-2006), is almost unknown today, a Jewish woman from Poland whose family was murdered during the Holocaust. In the 1960s she was a star in Germany. She travelled the world with the Berlin guitarist Siegfried Behrend and sang songs in 17 languages. Both shared the common goal of international understanding and reconciliation. With a repertoire of Yiddish songs, Belina tried to bring Jewish culture closer to the German youth in particular. A fascinating “musical diplomat”, whom the filmmaker commemorates together with numerous artists such as Nana Mouskouri or Giora Feidman. (Livia Theuer)
