49 PROBLEMS (AND MY FUTURE IS ONE) tells the story of the imprisoned climate activist “Ella” and follows the protests against the A49 motorway over the course of a year. The protest by environmental activists in central and eastern Hesse began in the autumn of 2019. When the tree houses and camps of the anti-motorway activists were cleared a year later, up to 2,000 police officers were on site every day for weeks. Maxi Buck draws a portrait of climate politics and activism, of utopias, how generations come together and clash, and the question of how we want to treat our planet in the future. (Constance Hahn)
