In his film essay, Mike Hoolboom puts the two pandemics of COVID-19 and AIDS in relation to each other through the neoliberal mythology of personal freedom: “Freedom from Everything”, according to Hito Steyerl, means the freedom from a good job, health care, affordable housing. Hoolboom explores the implications of this “freedom from everything” in a dense web of images, sounds and textual references of the most diverse origins, in which Magaret Thatcher, George Michael, James Baldwin, Akira Kurosawa, Audre Lorde and David Wojnarowicz come face to face.
