In CENOTAPH, an acoustic device – speakers placed on a beach – replaces the ocean that has disappeared. The sound of the waves that used to be there is broadcast through the speakers and looped, repeated ad infinitum. The sea, digitized and amplified, becomes a saturated wave, a flow of data, a transmitter signal whose origin is lost. The copy thus absorbs the actuality of the original, like a portrait of Dorian Gray or an invention by Morel.… >>>
