Aysun Bademsoy – Game Changer, part 4: Game Changers

(kleines BALi, KulturBahnhof Kassel)

Aysun Bademsoy’s observational documentaries open up very special perspectives. With her keen sense for people and situations, she establishes a trusting relationship with her protagonists. The people talk about their lives and openly share insights into their emotional worlds.

The documents and testimonies of Turkish Women in Berlin, collected during her long-term observation (1995–2024), have received little attention to date. For the 30th anniversary of “Mädchen am Ball” (1995), all four films are now available in digital form, giving us the opportunity to take a closer look.

“Game Changers” is the final part of a four-part series.

Game Changers

Arzu, Türkan, Nalan, and Nazan, the teenagers from Bademsoy’s 1995 documentary “Mädchen am Ball” are now independent, energetic and busy women in their forties who juggle their professional lives and families. The encounters with and questions from Aysun Bademsoy lead to brief moments of pause and reflection. A review and contextualization that also includes the daughters of the protagonists. In this dialog they reflect about female identity then and now, and the differences between the generations. Aysun Bademsoy creates a multi-layered film about German Turkish perspectives, which spans over more than thirty years.
