A Quiet Resistance

Erika and Tine, both 81, have been life partners for 40 years. In the GDR, they set up their own place in the countryside to live and work creatively. Here, they look back on their experience with living in an authoritarian regime and their strategies of survival then, and after the fall of the GDR. And they wonder, what the role of art can really be in a restrictive society and in politically demanding times: How can it give meaning to the individual and the public? It is a film about love, aging, autonomy, art and collectivity – and, above all, about the power of staying true to oneself.
