The only two inhabitants of the former mining town of Anyox are in charge of recycling the vast slag heaps left behind by copper smelting in the early 20th century. The film identifies traces of the extensive environmental destruction brought about by the concept of the industrial “company town”, and uses archival footage to unfold a complex history of the exploitation of mineral resources and human labour. Many of the inhabitants of Anyox were migrant workers who organised themselves in international networks to fight for better living conditions.
