Simple geometric figures form on screen, trace something complex. Separation and connection, inside and out, action and reaction: often abstract, sometimes terms such as “types” or “appearance” form. Clara writes – and reads from the Off – a letter to Clara. The filmmaker addresses her past self: from the perspective of herself who already experienced what the younger still has to, what she experiences presently, what – as the older knows – will lead her to a better place. A feminist self-empowerment against the grain of time and as a message to those who are not Clara, but, just as Clara herself, with personal yet universal appeal.
