Im Rahmen der Kunst
Whenever we look at art, we look at things that have been framed ? be it a painted landscape or a photograph, an art film or a video performance. With conceptual rigor, self-mockery or political engagement, the seven films in this programme provide frames for scenes, landscapes or pictures, position frames within the image and reflect on self-concepts of the artist, art and its imagery: How do actions become a performance? How is a landscape transformed into a canvas, or a canvas turned into a projection screen? And where does all this leave the spectator?
Clara S. was here
A character called Clara Sturm buys a leopard statue and wants to write a story or a manuscript about it. A voiceover describes her thoughts and feelings during the process. The video footage shows us different acts of a woman becoming a cat like person, exotic, wild and free.

Pigs in Progress
The video PIGS IN PROGRESS connects two opposing phenomena of urban development: The current gentrification processes of Berlin, where long term tenants are moved out of the city centre to maximise real estate profits, and the experience that house owners in the wealthier suburbs have with wild boars intruding into their premises. A playback performance amongst wild boars.

Reign of Silence
Guided by instructions sent via radio from the coastline, a motor boat driver steers into an even water surface, drawing a spiral made of waves and foam. REIGN OF SILENCE is a reflection on nature which transforms the untouched landscape into a performance stage, a projection screen, a canvas.

the gist
An arranged dialogue between a popular literary critic and an author marketed as literary 'enfant terrible'. Combining the sound track with digital camcorder and 8mm found footage material, the film creates a peculiar composition dealing with the status of art and its creator.

Signs of a city
A white canvas is carried through a city. The empty white surface catches shadows of city signs, lamps or rubbish bins. Once a shadow is reflected on the canvas, not only is it transformed into a painting but it also provides a projection surface for a monochrome film dedicated to the fleetingness of time. An unusual portrait of the urban landscape.

Journal
JOURNAL is a collection of one-shot sequences, filmed in a photography exhibition. The camera follows a set parcours in the space which exhibits images of high ranking public figures visiting the Yad Vashem memorial site. From the dual point-of-view of a visitor and a documenter, a multiplicity of perspectives is produced. JOURNAL follows the production of narratives while piercing through points of view and lenses of three photographers. The film reflects upon the way spectatorship is performed, and how positions are taken in front of images, historical documents and the production of collective memory.
