Displaced

Friday, November 13th 2015 AT 22:15 h, Großes BALi

War from different angles: a teenager who had to flee as a young girl. A young woman who lives in a peaceful country while her famliy is surrounded by war. A mersionary, who committs those crimes that traumatize not only the victims. A daugther who tells the story of her father and the battles for freedom he fought in vain and the family which is still in the land he had to leave behind. Grandchildren who can still feel the wounds of their grandparents, the phantom pain that cannot be localized. War leaves it's marks in different ways.

Orange Jam

Orange Jam

The progressive approaches to writing the history of society instead of the history of individuals, are being suppressed once by the media society. The same in the Tunisian Spring, where it foregrounds single hero-stories, regardless of the real influence on the incidents. The vegetable seller set fire to himself on December 17, 2010. Later doubts about the suicide and political motivation came up. Confiture d'orange is a video essay that connects that incident to my own (bitter) history: My more than 80-year-old father with Tunisian origins, formerly a socialist activist, travelled back to his home country three years after Ben Ali's downfall. Back in Tunisia, my father, Abdelhac, didn't find the freedom he once fought for. Salafists had destroyed the mausoleum where my family is buried, one day before his arrival. Only the orange trees were still intact. Abdelhac picked several kilos and took them with him back to Morges, in Switzerland, where he cooked four big pots of marmelade for each of his four children. Whether it conserves bitter or sweet memories, is up to the viewer.

We Can't Come from Nothing

We Can't Come from Nothing

The film concentrates on the influence of family histories on contemporary personal life. How are events which took place during previous generations influential today? How to deal with family history when every trace is lost or if is kept secret? The viewer meets seven characters who share their individual and personal story, together they show how history results in a diversity of narratives and experiences. The film focusses on a particular part of the Jewish / Polish history.
