Social Affairs

Saturday, November 14th 2015 AT 13:15 h, Großes BALi

We Humans predominantly see ourselves as social beings, connected with others through shared interests, preferences and beliefs. But outside of established and accepted (moral) standards you are quite alone, even in a social society. This filmprogramme looks at existence inside and outside of the norm. We learn about living with the stigma of a pedophile predisposition, a segregated profession, the feeling of isolation from a community but also about being part of one. For some it's easier, for others quite hard.

Among Us

Among Us

Three pedophiles give an insight into their minds and thoughts. The sexual feelings of Kasper (24, student), Hugo (35, writer) and Ben (44, financial consultant) are in sharp contrast with their own morals. How do they cope with this conflict? How do you learn to live with a sexual orientation that is being considered morbid? ONDER ONS is a short documentary of three self-conscious pedophiles giving a merciless insight into their experiences.

It all takes place in Northern France, in an area called L’Avesnois. Fields, bricks, sky and its freaks, men and women who meet each oher at a turn in a forest, in a street. They are just passing through, fragile presences in these lands, but what is motivating them, what makes them feel alive? A breath, a quiver, a history of presence in the world. This film was made as part of a creation residency organized by La chambre d'eau in the territory of the Avesnois.

Grey Area

Grey Area

Grey Area tells a story of a rural Irish embalmer named Eamonn Grey. Living alone in his purpose built funeral home, Eamonn can seem odd on first impressions. However it doesn’t take long to realise that he’s simply a caring individual who has found his life’s calling. His number one ambition is to get families, friends and loved ones through their pain and suffering. And that makes him a valued member of his community.

Goodnight

Goodnight

WELTERUSTEN shows nightly Rotterdam. A modern metropolis where light never dims and where loneliness dwells unseen in the emptiness. Someone stays awake to listen and talk anonymously, to encourage lost souls to a goodnights sleep. That doesn't always work. But the night is patient, not knowing what will happen, waiting for a new day.
