Tiefe Einblicke

Friday, November 13th 2015 AT 00:00 h, Großes BALi

The human body is an incredible apparatus. The human soul is fragile. While the one can be mobile, be bursting with strength, the other is shaped by emotional states. As diverse as their condition might be, body and soul are an entity, which must endure a lot. Our social environment affects our physical and psychological well-being. If one does not strengthen or damage oneself, it is the outsiders that are good or less good for us. Is the body really a mirror of our soul?

Bodyswing

Bodyswing

The temptation of music. Who can resist it? A little tapping here, a swaying there and the movement gives the body a boost.

Corporal Entity

Corporal Entity

In the video different kinds of narrations about physical strength compete with each other. Beauty, health and fitness as an imperative to the individuals of now manifest in stereotypical videos, which seem to be invisibly guided to produce similar images over and over. How we narrate bodies and how we let our bodies speak, always appears individualistic and depending on the context, ranges from sexualization to the pathos of crossing boundaries. The interpretations of the ideal functions of the body seem ambivalent, contradictory in many ways and still do not negate each other. Every day they fight for our attention, just as the single elements of the videos do. One can never register everything at the same time. How do singular people bring together the abundance of demands and their physical unit? How do they define the limits of their self improvement? Can a state of neediness and helplessness be associated with something dignified or even wise?

Hypochondria

Hypochondria

Sometimes the own body can be like an alien. Does one have to be afraid of it? It bubbles and pumps and rumbles and works without us being able to comprehend let alone control it. Alone with oneself, even the own organs can seem strange… A short animated film in aquarelle, pulsating like the body.

Tell me Woman

Tell me Woman

TELL ME WOMAN is a contemporary fable, in which animals function as substitutes for humans – or interact with them – to try and evoke ambivalent feelings between repulsion and empathy. The short film deals with cruelties, which we put on each other, and with love, which we can feel for each other, and with small moments of inner arousal, which both can cause in us. Sensual experience, which we hide from each other because they are not considered mannerly, become a meticulous method to serve as the substitute of our confusion and our archaic urge to destruct and trespass. The sound encloses the experience into a surreal dream world, which suggests ultimate closeness and distanced coolness at the same time. Gärtner stages almost sacral moments of absurd togetherness, of care and abuse. They touch us in a strange way, because an aesthetic fusion of the contradiction of human emotions is generated.

ACAD&C

ACAD&C

ACAD&C is an agency for networking and professionalization between young artists, theoreticians and their supporters. It focuses on the power of personal relations between artists or with other groups of recipients and distributors. ACAD&C does not pretend to know what art is. The agency views art as a permanent performance with a continuous output, which can be experienced primarily through communication between the artist, recipient, distributor and later through the art itself. For this reason the main interest lies in conversation.

Alacritas

Alacritas

alacritas outlines – in a subtle but non-the-less painful manner – being awake and asleep as well as failure and perception. The film plays with fears, existential questions and the connection between time and space, time and dream. The main character wanders through all of this like on a razorblade, and passes through a process, on the way to find the own position of “I” and the “world”. The film describes the search for liveliness and is a retrospective into a past life situation, but also tries to find universality with its pursued open imagery, which encompasses melancholy, anxiety about the future, obsession and inner conflict between now, yesterday and tomorrow. And, in the end, raises the question of liveliness, of "alacritas".
