Proof Pending
Finding a rational explanation for extraordinary experiences or events is a prerogative of science. And when those transcend our normal mental faculties, film- foto- or soundmaterial is often used to find scientific proof for their existence. A programme with 6 films that try to grasp inexplicable or invisible phenomena by means of camera and sound-equipment: ficticious force, the presence of spirits, radiation, teleportation and the imaging power of thought.
Fictitious Force
“These things don’t happen by force,” says Observer A. “Or by one’s will,” adds Observer B. FICTITIOUS FORCE is an exchange on the impossibility to share experiences, in black and white and grey.

Neither God nor Santa María
When planes did not exist, people moved from one place to another by magic. In old sound recordings, the voices of shepherds speak of the mythical existence of witches and their travels. And an old woman reflects the magic of these tales, as she waits for night. Nighttime is the the only time when traveling is possible. The sounddocuments date from 1965 to 1967 from the island of Tenerife, the film was shot 2014 on Lanzarote.

Detour de Force
DETOUR DE FORCE presents the world of thoughtographer Ted Serios, a charismatic Chicago bell hop who, in the mid-1960’s produced hundreds of Polaroid images from his mind. Constructed from 16 mm documentation of Serios’s sessions and audio recordings of Serios speaking with Dr. Jule Eisenbud, the Denver psychiatrist who championed his abilities, the film is more ethnography than biography, portraying the social and scientific environments in which Serios thrived. The film foregrounds the state of image and sound recording technologies of the period as essential to the emergence of Serios’s psychic photography. It is also a document of the filmmaker’s encounters with the archival materials themselves. The film enjoys a rich sound environment by Ernst Karel, Kyle Bruckmann and Guiseppe Ielasi.

sound of a million insects, light of a thousand stars
The film director buried a 100-foot 35mm film under fallen leaves alongside a country road, about 25 km away from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, exposing it to the possible remaining of the radioactive materials. The area was once an evacuation zone but now people live there again, after the removal of contaminated soil.

The Last Mango Before the Monsoon
Two technicians in the forest department are attempting to put up camera traps that take a photograph when they detect body heat. This is in a forest in the southern parts of the Western Ghats. Up north, in another part of the same mountain range, an old woman recalls her dead husband, on the eve of the monsoon.
