San Agustin - Low Tide in the Plastic Sea
In the midst of the world’s largest fruit and vegetable plantations lies the village of San Agustin. We've all probably seen pictures of the vast plastic-wrapped landscape, the "Mar de Plastico." This film however lets the local farmers have their say. What is their view of the EU-subsidized developments in their region? What does their everyday reality look like? Nine chapters touch on widely varying points, from the working conditions of illegal immigrants to the "Cucumber Crisis," all explored with ironic distance. A bittersweet glimpse in to the depths of a serious and problematic subject.
