Norway during the Nazi occupation in the Second World War. Some 450 Norwegian nurses are drafted in to service in German army field hospitals to take care of wounded German soldiers. When the war is over these nurses are found guilty of committing high treason and jailed – despite strong protest on the part of the internationally active Red Cross. The nurses also become the object of harsh judgement and condemnation by the general public. For decades these women kept their stories, which were unbearably heavy with guilt, fear and shame, to themselves.
