For all that Art's worth

At auctions all over the world art is sold at astronomical prices, the art market seems to be an arbitrary spectacle staged by a troupe composed of investment bankers, collectors and aficionados. Two films glimpse into these spheres and explore the relationship between art and money. They raise the question of the intangible value of art. What draws us to it, and what is so fascinating about it? Is it the promise of freedom, happiness or even enlightenment? The protagonists in these two films seem to lose control and drift into parallel worlds in which fiction and reality are intertwined.

Bielutin - In the Garden of Time

Bielutin - In the Garden of Time

Secluded in their apartment in Moscow, Ely and Nina Bielutin are jealously guarding a secret treasure: one of the most significant and mysterious Renaissance art collections known. Surrounded by their raven and cats, under the watchful eyes of Leonardo da Vinci, Tizian, Michelangelo and Rubens, Ely and Nina move in a hermetic microcosm, a fictional dimension, where art and lies have progressively taken precedence over reality.

When Clemens K., the long-time Head of Accounting at an important art foundation in Amsterdam, decides to transfer more than 16 million Euros to an unknown account in Switzerland and vanishes completely, the loss goes far beyond the monetary. Friends and colleagues are doubtful, horrified, worried, ashamed, angry, and again in doubt. They wonder how this could have happened right before their eyes, without any of them noticing. Who was this man they had been working with for more than 8 years?
