MEDIENPROJEKTZENTRUM OFFENER KANAL (KULTURBAHNHOF) | FR. 18.11. | 11:30 – 17:00
The section Profis Plaudern Praxis has been presented in collaboration with the Hessian Film- and Media Academy (hFMA) since 2010. The section is considered a platform for further education of people involved in media and filmmaking, who share their expertise in lectures and workshops. Thus, new ways of dealing with the latest developments in the media business can be found and explored.
Distribution and Marketing for Film Productions
How can I market my film production (at profit)?
• What options do I as a film maker have to market my film?
• Which distributers, online platforms and media libraries might be interested in my film?
• Is self-publishing an alternative?
• How do I make the public aware of my film?
Because universities tend to have a different focus than the distribution and marketing of the works that are produced there, such questions often remain unanswered. This is exactly where Profis Plaudern Praxis VIII / PraxisDokfest wants to come in. The event is intended to allow film students to get first answers to these questions from the experts.
Short lectures will open new perspectives. Subsequently, individual queries can be addressed in one-on-one conversations.
Last year, Profis Plaudern Praxis VII / PraxisDokfest “The Right Film at the Right Place” addressed the question of the diversity of various festivals and the related issue of programme selection. The goal was to help film makers get oriented in where to submit their own works. This second event discusses assessment strategies for up-and-coming films based on questions around distribution and marketing.
Lectures: in German, no reservation necessary, free entrance

Marketing for Short Films
Digitalisation has fundamentally changed, not least, the playing and assessment of films. On the one hand this provides filmmakers with the chance to reach a wider audience, it does, however, require appropriate careful planning during the preproduction phase. This applies equally for short films. Beyond the platforms and evaluation forms via which the production is offered, it is also possible to develop a profile through the skilled use of promotion, prizes and awards, and crowd involvement.

How independent films can benefit from the video-on-demand market
In a film distribution market that is fundamentally changing, digital technologies offer new opportunities for reaching a specific audience, particularly for independent films.
The key is in the digital knowledge about the audience: Who are they and how to reach them? Usage data and its analysis will have a crucial role to play in the future. And not only among the big players of the sector but particularly for independent films. Philip Hoffmann of Rushlake Media, an international film distributer focussing on digital distribution, will provide answers to these questions.

arsenal distribution / Living Archive
Vibrantly communicating international film culture is at the core of the Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst, whose archiving and distribution policy is founded in the wish that films should not just be seen once at a festival, but made available as part of their collection over a long period of time. Presenting video art and experimental films in-house, at festivals, in museums and galleries contributes to continuously reexamining cinema’s requirements.
