A photograph taken in Syria of a cactus field, 1998, a plant known for its resilience. War and its havoc have been there. That’s all that remains from a formerly familiar space to the filmmaker. A slow metamorphosis of the image, processes and mechanisms of devastation and reconstruction led to the destruction of the portrayed place. From a landscape to its representation, zooming, focusing, scanning, developing; conjuring up helicopters, bulldozers and other tanks which plough the earth. Displacements from Syria to Berlin, from the cactus field to the eloquently dark backyard, questioning the image-related technique, its destruction and its memory.
