The film SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS portrays female pioneers of electronic music who made a major contribution to the development of synthetic sound, which was completely new at the time. Today, they appear in music history at best on the margins, with their male colleagues always visible front and center. Experimentation with synthetic sound phenomena offered women like Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire, Laurie Spiegel, and Pauline Oliveros unprecedented freedom in music, and a space where they could act outside of female gender stereotypes and structural obstacles.
