Hangover from the Past

We all know that the human being is not necessarily wise – at least, the modern human being isn’t. With its industries, it has made the earth its subject, as though driven by a godly curse. Left behind for its descendants, from Thuringia to Somalia, are gleaming sites of contamination. The filmmakers of this program process the catastrophe with diverse cinematic means and narrative forms ranging from animation to documentary in oppressive landscape tableaus. The question of hope is answered differently by each film. We are offered chances, but a clear answer would be too bold. (Ascan Breuer)
