Beneath the slopes lies the horror: ESQUÍ searches for the hidden, forgotten and repressed on the dark side of the winter sports metropolis of Bariloche. As much as the place shines in the light of the winter sun, its history is a dark one. Nazi war criminals found refuge here, while the indigenous Mapuche have been oppressed and exploited for over 500 years – until today. It is a haunting place where the boundaries of myth, ethnography and the documentary blur. If the genre of documentary horror films does exist, ESQUÍ is one of its most exciting representatives.
