For years, the so-called Islamic State brutally controlled the Kurdish areas in Syria. Nowadays, Rojava, Syrian Kurdistan, is liberated from the occupation by the Islamic State – mainly by the intervention of Kurdish militias. The fighters of the jihadist IS are now prisoners of the Kurdish authorities.
