For years, the so-called Islamic State brutally controlled the Kurdish areas in Syria. Nowadays, Rojava, Syrian Kurdistan, is liberated from the occupation by the Islamic State – mainly by the intervention of Kurdish militias. The fighters of the jihadist IS are now prisoners of the Kurdish authorities. The Kurdish filmmaker Zaynê Akyol interviews these fighters about their ideas, their past and visions of their future and about their – partly still pursued – dream of establishing an Islamist calipha.
