A small film team goes into the compartments for women on Mumbai’s local transport. With the opening question “What makes you angry?”, director Rebana Liz John gets into conversation with various women, young and old, rich and poor, religious and atheist. The conversations revolve around everyday problems, fears and hopes. Shot in black and white, the film captures not only the women’s stories but also the atmosphere of travelling: curious faces, roads flying by, tiredness and stress. LADIES ONLY is a feminist portrait of modern Indian urban women. (Ina Borrmann)
