Între revoluții (Between Revolutions)

Zahra and Maria study together at the university in Bucharest in the 1970's. As the revolutionary forces in Iran gain influence, Zahra returns home hoping she could contribute to a new open society. From then on, the two young women can only communicate through letters. Divided by two revolutions, they describe a female perspective on the difficulties to integrate into societies, that do not share their values. In his film, Vlad Petri combines the sensitive wording of fictive letters full of longing with breathtaking, and skillfully edited archival footage from Iran and Romania. (Christina Zimmermann)
