Anna Ilin’s post-migrant film essay of thought fragments and family entanglements is wrapped in a road movie on the edge of Europe. No one knows where their own past begins or ends. So Ilin asks what remains of both parents’ homeland and searches for answers in the geographies of their origins. The exploratory movements of a car ride are without a clear goal. Instead, they reach for universal themes: Family ties, historical events that shape the private, and the question of what one wants to pass on, of what shapes oneself. (Joey Arand)
