junges dokfest

The educational side program for young audiences, “junges dokfest – Watch and understand documentary film”, has been presented in cooperation with the Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting in Hesse (LPR Hessen) since 2009.

The section “junges dokfest” is aimed at school students from the 7th till the 13th grade as well as teachers and will take place before as well as during the festival.

Workshops and screenings will provide young persons an insight into the broad spectrum of documentary filmmaking, they can further practice their competence in understanding film and will write own reviews of selected films of the festival program under the guidance of media educators. The participants will also have the opportunity to engage in interesting discussions with attending filmmakers. Additionally three students will be involved in the Jury for the production grant “A38”.

Participating teachers will be offered special training in advance.

The educational side program will be instructed by the media educator and film scientist Dr. Carsten Siehl.

The works that will be shown in the “junges dokfest” program will be selected from all submissions for the film and video section. Submission for this section specifically, are not possible.

visionale a guest at Kassel Dokfest – young visions from Hesse

visionale is the longest running and biggest annual film festival for young filmmakers from Hesse. Young creatives up to the age of 27 show their films on the big screen of this three day long festival and have the chance to win the “Frankfurter Filmpreis”, a monetary award.

Despite growing up in a digital culture with video platforms and virtual interactions on a daily basis young filmmakers are still craving for a face-to-face interaction when networking with other creatives and seem to appreciate the atmosphere of the big screen and a live audience. This is why the visionale is still – after almost 30 years of its inception – a popular event, and the festival is proud to present a programme of 67 films in 2016, out of almost 200 productions which were submitted this year. From kids to self-taught filmmakers and film school students, the programme reflects the diversity of film culture from different backgrounds and different age groups.

In 2016 visionale also presents an international film programme for the first time: a selection of short films from young filmmakers from Israel and from Turkey will widen the already broad filmic discourse of the festival.

The festival is organized by Medienzentrum Frankfurt e. V., Filmhaus Frankfurt, Jugend- und Sozialamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main and Gallus Theater, where it will be taking place from November 11-13, 2016.

Within this year’s cooperation between visionale and Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival a programme with three films from junges dokfest – Watch and Understand Documentary Film 2015 is shown at the festival in Frankfurt on November 13, 2016, introduced by the filmmakers. In exchange visionale presents at Kassel Dokfest a program with six films that before will be screened at the festival in Frankfurt. The programme is presented by Alia Pagin (Medienzentrum Frankfurt e. V. / visionale).

MEDIA TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

The media training for teachers is the yearly beginning of the project “junges dokfest” and offers the opportunity to get to know documentary films from a media educational perspective. Using selected short films of the current festival program as the basis to show film specific methods of mediation and tendencies of development of a young generation of filmmakers, who try different aesthetic forms and therefore directly oppose the so called “scripted reality” formats of the entertainment industry.
