Everyone wants to live there, and hardly anyone can afford it. Metropolises such as Toronto, London, Barcelona, Milan, Berlin and Stockholm have become places of financial speculation in which investment firms buy up and sell apartment buildings and building land on a large scale. Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing, tries to counteract this development in the discussion with politicians, scientists, activists and affected tenants – which amounts to a fight against windmills.
