Nuclear Family

As a child, U.S.-American filmmaker Travis Wilkerson has nightmares of nuclear war, which disappear after a family trip to nuclear bases in America’s Midwest. After Trump’s election, the nightmares are back, and he repeats the trip with his own family to banish them once again. The resulting political documentary essay interweaves snapshots of family life with stunning images of nature and the dark side of the country’s history that lies beneath the green hills: the genocide of indigenous peoples, nuclear weapons testing and environmental disasters.
