BRAINWASHED: Sex-Camera-Power

Based on Nina Menke’s lecture “Sex & Power: The Visual Language of Oppression” (2018), BRAINWASHED explores the relationship between audiovisual representational practices in cinema, labor discrimination in the film industry, and an overall patriarchally organized culture of sexual objectification of women. Using more than 175 film clips, the analysis of audiovisual design decisions exposes a consistent predatory view of female characters.
