Closeness and distance often determine the relationship between children and parents. This is no less true for artists' families. Charlotte Gainsbourg approaches her mother, the actress and singer Jane Birkin, with her camera in order to get to know her better, as she says herself. And she follows the "Grand Dame" to the places that shaped her life–all the way to the long-abandoned house where she spent happy years with music legend Serge Gainsbourg. The result of this documentary debut is an impressionistic, gentle, intimate close-up of Birkin.
