The shortfilm FRAGMENTS ON MACHINES directed by Emma Charles celebrated its German premiere at Kassel Dokfest in 2014.
From September 4 to January 31 the film is part of the exhibition Infospheres in the Museum of Contemporary Art at ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe.
Working with both photography and moving image, her work explores metropolitan spaces of productivity that are hidden from the public eye. FRAGMENTS ON MACHINES reveals the physical framework and materiality of the internet in the financial district of New York. The physically closer the firms and banks are, the faster their algorithms can trade – much faster than our human capabilities.
The ZKM Center for Art and Media and the Kassel Dokfest are cooperation partners and operate, together with the documenta Archive and the European Media Art Festival, the website mediadatabase.de, a database for media art and art documentation.
