Since 2014, the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival has been presenting an established European distributor of film and media. How does a distributor find out about a film, and vice versa? And how does a film end up in front of an audience, at a festival or in the cinema? Which distributor has what profile? Based on a typical selection of films, we want to illustrate and discuss this. This is an invitation to filmmakers and professionals, but also an interested general public to have a look behind the scenes.
This year we are focusing on Eastern European films. The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) with its distributor East Silver has been a reliable partner of the Kassel Dokfest for years. Year on year our colleagues in Prague have been supplying our selection committees with excellent productions from Eastern Europe. With their various activities and networking opportunities, the IDF stands for highly professional and extraordinary commitment - from the first steps of young productions in the area of film and transmedia to connecting filmmakers with supporters and expert audiences to screenings at smaller and larger festivals around the world. And visits in Prague proove the common values of the people behind the scenes both in Kassel and in Prague: creativity, passion and lots of enthusiasm – for exceptional films, their creators and the audience.
For the 32nd Kassel Dokfest, we invited Zdeněk Blaha (project manager of East Silver Market). He will present a selection of current works, which show the characteristics of Eastern European films. Afterwards there will be time for discussions.
