The Dutch director of photography Robby Müller worked with directors like Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmusch and Lars von Trier. His obsessive search for the ultimate light might have blown quite a few schedules, but it also rewarded him with Deutscher Filmpreis and Camera d'Or for best cinematographer. For this film, the director Claire Pijman accessed over thousand hours of private video material, films, fotos and polaroids. Inspired by the Russian net artist and self-proclaimed security expert Grigory Bakunov, Guan Hong Chen – in the style of a make-up tutorial – makes concrete suggestions on how one's own facial biometry can be blurred by certain paintings to be reinterpreted by automated facial recognition software. While this can undermine the detection mechanisms of surveillance systems, new forms of irritation occur.
