Milk and Honey

Paradise is a utopian place that knows no hunger or suffering. On the contrary: in paradise, there is more than enough of everything. This idea of a life of abundance arose at the end of the Middle Ages as a radical ideal of the poor rural populations and urban lower classes. For some present-day societies the dream seems to have come true. However, this apparent prosperity has its downside. Mother of the Diaspora

When her mother fled to Germany she was as old as the director is today. From an early age, certain images and values were conveyed to her about how a family was to be. Commitment and cohesion were of great importance. But who was it who actually defined this? The filmmaker approaches the person who is her mother. Have they not perhaps had the same experiences? When was the first heartbreak? What memories are there of school days? What was the most difficult farewell? What about loneliness? An unfinished diary entry about two people who get to know one another anew.… >>>

    Wir und das, was bleibt

Who determines who can tell the stories? The prerogative of interpretation is the responsibility of the system – but what can be done if this system is under patriarchal influence and one’s own stories are a criticism of this same system? Shot with 16mm film, the film gives three young women a platform to report about their day-to-day lives. Their stories deal with stereotypical patterns of thought, those of the others, but also those in ourselves. It is about social constraints and existing gender roles, about oppression and emancipation, and about the necessity of a feminist agenda.… >>>
