The center piece of the Kassel Dokfest is the film program, divided into three sections:

Up to 16 contemporary media installations and sculptures by up-and-coming as well as well-known artists will be presented at the exhibition Monitoring.

03.DOKFEST LOUNGE

The DokfestLounge is not only the location for audiovisual performances by international artists, VJs and DJs but also the nocturnal meeting point for our guests after 10.30 pm.

04.INTERFICTION

The Workshop symposium interfiction offers lectures, presentations and workshop-sessions concerning a yearly changing topic, which takes a closer look at the political, social and artistic aspects of the medium internet.

05.JUNGES DOKFEST

This educational side program is aimed at school students from the 7th till the 13th grade as well as teachers. The project consists of special film programs as well as workshops about film analysis and criticism under the guidance of media educators.

06.DOKFEST FORUM

The DokfestForum offers panels, lectures and screenings that raise questions about the interfaces between film and art. During the daytime the DokfestForum as a festival meeting point will provide a café with a video library for accredited guests.

07.EDUCATION

With the Hessian University Film Day, the presentation of a European Film College and hands-on workshops and lectures, the Kassel Dokfest offers possibilities for further education, information on education opportunities and access to professional networks for (Hessian) up-and-coming filmmakers.

The Girl whose shadow reflected in the moon

A cooperation between the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival / DokfestCampus, the BALi-Cinemas and the subject Political Theory at the University of Kassel

What marks the political? What role does the media and moving picture play in the political context? What about the people in Syria and how is their image conveyed in the media? Students of Political Sciences dealt among others with these questions. Some examples of the short videos that emerged from this analysis will be shown.

The contend-related frame will be explained by Prof. Sonja Buckel. Some works from the archive of Kassel Dokfest will complement the program, which will be put up for discussion on the background of current political developments.

 

The Girl, Whose Shadow is Reflected in the Moon

Walaa is 16 years old, comes from Syria and lives in a refugee camp in Jordan. This film is her diary, she wants to show the world what she thinks, feels and how she sees the world.

 

Film Studies – Student Films

Students of Politics present in short video clips their analysis of current topics like the war in Syria, migration and gender relation.

 

9 Days – From My Window in Aleppo

One morning in August 2012 the Syrian photographer Issa Touma observes, how men in his street are building a blockade. He takes his camera and documents the happenings for nine days.

 

L’Axe du Mal (Axis of Evil)

Lièvre brings back the famous speech of Bush about the “Axis of Evil“ in the American homeland and changes in a creative way their meaning. A particular love song: Make love, stop war.
