The Hessian University Film Day

The promotion of young Hessian filmmakers is a special matter of the Kassel Dokfest. Therefore the Kassel Dokfest presents the Hessian University Film Day in cooperation with the film class of the Kassel College for the Fine Arts and the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA).

Students of the Universities of Offenbach, Darmstadt, RheinMain (Wiesbaden) and Kassel are offered a one day event with plenty of opportunities to present and pitch current productions of the genres fiction, documentary and animated film to an audience of experts of journalists, producers and distributors.

The Hessian University Film Day’s aim is to enable first contacts within the film and TV business for young Hessian filmmakers and to provide impulses for future cooperation for graduation or debut films.

Every University receives a one-and-a-half hour slot for the presentation of their films. The works to be presented are selected by the professors of the four universities and the organizers of Hessian University Film Day.

The direction of the University Film Day is carried out by a changing team of film students of the Kassel College for the Fine Arts.

The 3rd Hessian University Film Day will take place on November 15, 2012.

University Portrayal

The Kassel Dokfest has been offering distinguished universities and art academies to present their student’s current film projects in a special presentation during the Dokfest since 1989. Also, professors, representatives and students of the respective university are invited to Kassel.

This event is part of the regular film program but is specially aimed at students, who would like to get an impression of the presented university and its curriculum. Moreover this makes it possible to get in touch directly with professors and students in a very uncomplicated manner.

This series of university portraits was started off by a presentation of the Video Department of the University of Kassel at the 6th Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival.

Since then several German – and since 2006 also European – film schools were invited to Kassel every year.

University Portrayal 2012

This year's university portrayal presents the Geneva University of Art and Design, HEAD. The program will show 9 films recently produced at the university.
