The 6th Hessian University Film Day

The promotion of young Hessian filmmakers is a special matter of the Kassel Dokfest. Therefore the Kassel Dokfest presents the Hessian University Film Day in cooperation with the class of moving image of the School for Art and Design Kassel and the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA). As part of the Hessian University Film Day (HHFT), four universities that have a film program present their best feature, animation and documentary films to an audience of industry insiders and also pitch their newest ideas. The goal of the HHFT is to make a connection between Hessian students and graduates and the film and TV industry, in order to promote future collaboration. Every year, the HHFT specifically invites journalists, producers, heads of other festivals, distribution partners and members of various institutions of education. To further intensify the exchange for the 6th HHFT, not only students are invited to present themselves and their projects, but the industry professionals also get a chance to say a little bit about their work and themselves. For the 6th time running, the HHFT is supported by the Kassel Dokfest and the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA), and organized and implemented by students of the School for Art and Design Kassel.

The Hessian University Film Day is a non-public event for invited professionals and accredited festival guests!

University Portrayal

The Kassel Dokfest has been offering distinguished universities and art academies to present their student’s current film projects in a special presentation during the Dokfest since 1989. Also, professors, representatives and students of the respective university are invited to Kassel. This event is part of the regular film program but is specially aimed at students, who would like to get an impression of the presented university and its curriculum. Moreover this makes it possible to get in touch directly with professors and students in a very uncomplicated manner. This series of university portraits was started off by a presentation of the Video Department of the University of Kassel at the 6th Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival. Since then several German – and since 2006 also European – film schools were invited to Kassel every year.

University Portrayal 2015

This year's university portrayal presents the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Every year, the Kassel Dokfest presents (independent from the selected works from the official competition) a film school from another European country. For this purpose a few of the students of the respective university are together with their professors invited to Kassel to present their latest works. Subsequently to the screenings, discussions offer the audience the possibility to talk to both the lecturer and the young talents. The audience is able to extend its knowledge about European film, teaching models at film schools in other European countries and to establish mutually important contacts. In 2010 Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains (Tourcoing / France), in 2011 the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Czech Republic), in 2012 the University of art and design (Geneva / Switzerland) and in 2013 the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Austria) were presented. The Portrait of the 31st edition is dedicated to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo (Sicily / Italy). Prof. Marco Battaglia, Prof. Umberto de Paola and Prof. Luca Pulvirenti will present together with some of their students a compilation of twenty short films consisting of the latest works of the University. All of the films are going to have their world premier at the 31st Kassel Dokfest.
