Shooting through Space and Time

Saturday, November 14th 2015 AT 00:00 h, Großes BALi

This audiovisual roller-coaster is waiting for you late at night. It exposes you to the elements, overcomes gravity and fuses time and space. High up into the sky we look down, spin in constant movement and finally rest in a static position. But not for long, the images accelerate till they reach total abstraction. Seven experimental pieces investigate the abstract in everyday life. They discover a multitude of structures, forms and colours and thus create a new perspective on existing spaces.

Playground

Playground

This stop-motion film shows a battle between nature and culture, organic and artificial turf. Sequences of identical forms melt and reform into an abstract series of pictures. Made with images found on Google Earth.

The Art of Flying

The Art of Flying

A contemplation about “murmurations”: the mysterious flights of the Common Starling. It is still unknown how the thousands of birds are able to fly in such dense swarms without colliding. Every night the starlings gather at dusk to perform their stunning air show, one of the most spectacular and amazing natural phenomena on earth.

Volker Schreiner creates a filmic tryptic of three landscapes. The camera is in constant movement, searching for orientation, benchmarks and coordinates until it dissolves in eternal white. We loose all reference points, even tough the landscapes should be familiar.

Black Rain White Scars

Black Rain White Scars

BLACK RAIN WHITE SCARS depicts a twilight of reality. With the steady shot of a cityscape it guides us between visionary architecture and narrow planted apartment buildings. As we are searching for our relational point within it, the overwhelming murmuring of the human, car and boat traffic hypnotizes us.

Transit

Transit

Documentary shots of New York are altered by camera movements, angles and framing. This builds up to a new fictitious urban space, whose visual familiarity stems from the history of film. The theme of TRANSIT revolves around the collective visual ideas and notions of the urban environment.

Mictlan

Mictlan

A topographical video, born from the meeting of the hundred years old tunnel under the Elbe river, located in Hamburg and the Mictlan, the mythological Aztec place of death in the underworld. A circular and underground journey in a sensory space towards the dematerialization of the body and the mind.

THE

THE

Cinema, the Black Box in which the screen functions as a membrane between the different dimensions. Indefinable structures move rhythmically and extend into infinity. Patterns, grates, sounds and colours move in and out of the cinema space, morph into three-dimensional forms and then suddenly dissolve. We enter the space behind the screen and can feel the moving image as a bodily experience.
