Greece, for Example
GREECE, FOR EXAMPLE: A country that was confronted with an extreme amount of projections, prejudice and expectations in the international media battles of these past years of crisis. Departing from rather innocuous touristic views, in this program we approach the Greek myth from a variety of decidedly subjective perspectives. Films that take a strong stance while presenting their accounts and reviews of past and present events; that are looking to confront preexisting images and political contexts and have a personal concern to get to grips with all that Greece has become an example of.
A Place I've Never Been
The Acropolis, „Cradle of Democracy“ and tourist attraction, is one of Athen's most popular photo motif. A PLACE I'VE NEVER BEEN grabs the piled up images of this significant place from the digital archives. In an elaborate frame by frame montage hidden forms, patterns and references of collective image production are revealed, giving new meaning to the prevailing redundancy of these pictures.

Crisis Document. A Survival Guide
"We went to Athens to see what a European crisis looked like, and what the austerity measures had done to the country. For three years the European media had created an image of a population who do not pay taxes, live on loans and work too little. An image still reproduced by northern Europeans. Once in Greece, we met solidarity and an organizational resourcefulness to be envied. Political discussions that made the public discourse in Northern Europe look like a joke. We met many Greeks our own age, a generation whose parents have fought for democracy, education, welfare. Now they stand educated but there are no jobs. Our choice as filmmakers was to provide a space for “the missing media image” of Greece. And what about Sweden, are we having a crisis? If not, why is the unemployment growing? Why are fascist ideas taking hold? What if “the lazy Greek” is a myth established in order to maintain our own sense of security?" (Elisabeth Marjanović Cronvall, Marta Dauliūtė)

The Aegean or the Anus of Death
A mysterious man appears at locations in Athens where racist attacks have taken place. Why is he giving life jacket instructions? Who is he trying to save from the anus of death? THE AEGEAN OR THE ANUS OF DEATH confronts the topic of spreading right-wing extremism in Greece with the unsupportable situation of migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe. Jazra Khaleed's poetry assault is set at five locations in Athens where racist attacks have been reported during the last three years. A film poem jabbing at the current spread of ordinary fascism in Greece.

Archipelagos, Naked Granites
Athens 2014. Between bereaved desires and lost hopes, a film diary bangs against the walls of the city. The daily life of a country in crisis, the inertia of revolution, the individual issues that confront the political, questions of survival that confront ideals. Can we still ask the simplest questions?
